United have not announced Isaac Konde, but Andy Mitten reports the signing and Liverpool want seven figures

Andy Mitten reported for The Athletic that Konde had already joined United from Liverpool. The fee is unsettled: Liverpool expect compensation to reach seven figures, and a tribunal may decide it if the clubs cannot agree. The reported shape is a one-year scholarship followed by a five-year professional contract.

United have announced only one academy arrival, Karim Cassim, whose page went up on manutd.com Thursday. The Manchester Evening News reported United needed Premier League ratification before announcing Konde, with David Eze's move from City already approved. One deal is cleared and unannounced, the other uncleared. Both sit under the same carve-out: the window is shut, but academy business can proceed, and recruitment stays largely UK-based under Brexit rules.

Our read

United's own announcements now lag behind the reporting on its academy business, which is why a real move keeps reading like a rumour.

The Briefing

Bryan Mbeumo captained Cameroon and scored against Comoros. Bruno Fernandes created five chances for Wales, most on the pitch, per @MUnitedFR; Dorgu created three for Denmark (Player in Focus). No United fixture until Tottenham on 10 October.

Youri Tielemans, speaking to Belgian media, said United's results are not good enough and too many league points have already gone; United have five points from five games.

The Daily Express reports Benjamin Šeško's shin injury has ruled him out of Slovenia's fixtures too; United's pages still give no name or return date.

Receipts

Three calls from the summer, graded against what actually happened.

Elliot Anderson, 25 June

beat reportersigned elsewhere

Per David Ornstein: Manchester City agree to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £116m, guaranteed with no add-ons.

Predicted Agreement. Resolved Done.

Right on the club, right on the money, and it ended United's pursuit in a day. The BBC put the package at a club-record £116m the following morning and reported that United had been pressing before City moved. It was the first of the summer's midfield disappointments: Mateus Fernandes then went to Tottenham, and Alex Scott stayed at Bournemouth. United's eventual signing, Carlos Baleba, cost £65m guaranteed. Graded 7 September 2026.

Carlos Baleba, 7 July

beat reportercompleted

Per BBC Sport: United pull out of Baleba pursuit at £70m ask.

Predicted Deal off. Resolved Signed.

We reported United pulling back in early July at a £70m ask, and on 28 July the BBC had them cooled on his price. That call did not hold: on 19 August United lodged a first offer of £60m guaranteed plus £5m in add-ons, reported by David Ornstein at 08:50 and by Simon Stone, who wrote that it will not be enough. Brighton did accept, at £65m guaranteed plus £5m: the fee was agreed on 21 August, and on 23 August Sky Sports News and the Daily Mail both reported that Baleba had passed a medical and signed a five-year contract. Both clubs announced it on 25 August: a five-year contract to June 2031 with an option for a further year, and neither club stated a fee. Updated 26 August.

Manu Kone, 17 July

aggregatordid not progress

Per Rio Ferdinand, citing Fabrizio Romano: United have agreed a £45m fee with Roma for Manu Kone.

Predicted Agreement. Resolved Deal off.

The most specific claim made about United's midfield search all summer, and it was wrong. A fee agreed with a selling club is a checkable thing, and no other reporting ever placed one: Fabrizio Romano, named as the origin, had rebutted the agreement framing repeatedly in the fortnight before and after. Kone did not join United, no bid was reported as lodged, and the window shut on 1 September. Graded contradicted at the time and it stayed that way. Graded 7 September 2026.

The pattern holds: attributed reporting stood up, single-source specifics on Kone did not.

6-0 v Shamrock Rovers

United beat Shamrock Rovers 6-0 away in the European Cup, preliminary round, first leg. T. Taylor and Whelan scored twice each, with Berry and Pegg also on target. Attendance 45,000.

European nights used to arrive with scorelines like this one. A 6-0 away win over Shamrock Rovers in a European Cup preliminary round, with four different United scorers, hardly hinted at the campaign to come, the one that would end in tragedy and then define the club for a generation.

First Team: -17, -36 on a sample of 5

Academy: quiet (thin sample)

First-team mood sits at -17, down 36 across five items, driven by Mbeumo's captaincy and goal for Cameroon. Ownership, manager, academy and women layers stay quiet, samples too thin to score.

Reply with what United's business owes the pipeline: more academy graduates through the door, or fewer loans that never return.
