Patrick Dorgu came off inside half an hour for Denmark, with a suspected hamstring

Patrick Dorgu was withdrawn after about half an hour of Denmark's 2-0 win over Wales on Sunday. Ben Dinnery, an injury analyst, called it a suspected hamstring problem, non-contact, on the standing leg, possibly the proximal thigh, and hedged the mechanism himself: it could indicate a tendon issue.

The BBC has added Dorgu to its list of players hurt during the international window without naming a body part or a duration. United have said nothing. Dinnery notes this would be Dorgu's second hamstring issue of the year, after one that cost him close to three months.

Our read

Our read: a single hamstring strain is routine; a second inside twelve months, per Dinnery, is the number United actually need to worry about.

The Briefing

Bruno Fernandes sat out Portugal's Oslo win entirely, named in neither the starting eleven nor the substitutes; see Player in Focus.

Rooney hat-trick on debut

Wayne Rooney made his United debut in a 6-2 Champions League home win over Fenerbahce, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist. He was 18.

Eighteen-year-old debutants rarely get an audition like a Champions League night at Old Trafford; Wayne Rooney turned his into a hat-trick and never let United forget it was coming. Two decades and change on, it is still the debut every academy prospect at Carrington gets measured against, fairly or not.

Andy Mitten founded United We Stand in 1989, and thirty-seven years of institutional memory shows in his work: player interviews now numbering more than five hundred, and family ties to the club through his great-uncle Charlie Mitten, who played for United between 1946 and 1950.

He writes across The Athletic, FourFourTwo, the FT and Esquire without holding a staff role at the club, the kind of independence that keeps him worth reading over a house voice.

Ownership: -31, -31 on a sample of 3

Manager: quiet (thin sample)

First Team: -55, -40 on a sample of 7

Academy: quiet (thin sample)

Women: -1, -7 on a sample of 3

Ownership sentiment fell sharply on the City sanctions timeline, and the men's squad slid on Dorgu's injury news. Women's mood held level after Sunday's win; academy and manager reads stayed too thin to call.

Fan Voice

Reaction split two ways on Sunday: one fan doubted City's own supporters could trust the club again, another reacted the moment Dorgu limped off.

The problem is City fans have been told a lot of things over the last few years that don't look like they were right. Why would you trust it again?

Patrick Dorgu has gone off injured against Wales. Hopefully it’s nothing serious

Bruno Fernandes

6 mentions on the day's count, sentiment negative, trend falling.

Fernandes did not play in Portugal's 2-1 win in Oslo on Sunday, left out of both the starting eleven and the twelve substitutes named. Jorge Jesus gave two accounts of why: once that he arrived carrying an issue from United, once that Wales made it worse; Record reports he is being held back for Copenhagen on Thursday 1 October. Six mentions in a day's feed, with sentiment trending negative, is enough to call a pattern rather than noise.

Fernandes missed Portugal in Oslo with no body part, scan or return date named, and Portugal left him out of both the eleven and the twelve substitutes.
