Mazraoui's injury is back pain, and he rejoins United today

Noussair Mazraoui's issue is back pain, not something worse. Morocco World News, citing the Moroccan outlet Almountakhab, reports that medical examinations reassured the national coaching staff after he complained of back pain following a challenge against Lesotho. The Mirror and RotoWire both had him leaving that match holding his back. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation says he sat out training on Thursday at the Mohammed VI complex and that he will rejoin United on Friday. United have published no diagnosis and no recovery timeline of their own. Patrick Dorgu picked up a separate knock with Denmark in the same window. Carrick is asked about both players at his pre-match press conference.

Matchday Preview

Tottenham Hotspur home, Saturday, 16:30 kickoff, Premier League.

Tottenham visit Old Trafford for a Premier League fixture with both sides still shaking down their early-season form. Mazraoui's fitness is covered in the Lead. Dorgu's knock from the Denmark window leaves Carrick with another call to make at full back, and he is due to address both cases before kickoff.

The Briefing

United's own preview names four long-term absentees, Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt, Tom Heaton and Manuel Ugarte, and groups Mainoo, Rashford and Šeško among six more in doubt.

Creator Spotlight

David Ornstein

David Ornstein, tier 1, credibility 95 on our own scale.

David Ornstein covers United only when a move is close enough to confirm, not to speculate on. That restraint is the point: his byline on a transfer story means it is done or close to it, which is why rival reporters wait for him rather than race him. The trade-off is frequency. He will not appear here most weeks, and that absence is itself informative about where a story actually stands.

Club Pulse

Ownership: quiet (thin sample)

Manager: quiet (thin sample)

First Team: -5, +12 on a sample of 9

Academy: quiet (thin sample)

Women: quiet (thin sample)

First-team mood sits mildly negative, dragged by Mazraoui's doubt for Tottenham with the cause still unnamed. Ownership, manager, academy and women's layers are all quiet on thin sample.

Fan Voice

With Amad out, attention turns to who fills the gap at Old Trafford, and confidence about Saturday's result against Tottenham is not in short supply among supporters either.

There’s so much to his game and it’s hard to believe he is only 19.

So we still have to wait till Saturday to witness the demolishion of Tottenham

Player in Focus

Kobbie Mainoo

3 mentions on the day's count, sentiment neutral, trend stable.

Mainoo was United's player of the month in September and has been a doubt for Tottenham since before the international break. Three mentions in the window is still a thin base to read much into, but the shape of it holds: form up, fitness unresolved, and Carrick due to say which wins out.

September's player of the month at United, and a doubt for Saturday since before the international break.

Manchester United

Sign-off
